Heinous, callous, disgraceful, unforgiveable are words that follow this "crime" (much before the law even comes close to nabbing the felon). But its a futile topic of discussion, because action is what one requires to tackle this social worm.
It is important to understand that only numbers can be brought down and complete eradication is much like a fairy tale. Thus a severe punishment should be one of the deterrents for the perpetrator. But emotions, especially the spur of the moment types, stop for no one. Thus counselling during the early academic years and value instillation programmes in collaboration with parents is a must do. That way you are filtering out the "possible criminals".
But what about the downtrodden, less fortunate and underprivileged.(which, as you'll know, are the vast majority). Cleaning them up morally is a tough ask. A project of such a mammoth stature, can be co-ordinated with the help of Corporate Big Guns and MNC's. But this conflicts with their capitalist and profit maximisation motives. And thus Government steps in with compulsory reform programmes in lieu of duty subsidies. But again, a question of the moral quality of the Government is raised, incessantly?
Such social leeches need a revolution, like the "Independence struggle". The pertinent question obviously is "Who?". Do we possess the courage to come out of our shells? Do we have "what it really takes"? I'm struggling and dying a slow death.....
